I Believe in Christmas Eve

I Believe in Christmas Eve

I Believe in Christmas Eve

I Believe in Christmas Eve

The spirit here I think I see,
Reflected from the Christmas tree,
Across the crisp December snow –
A beacon of security.

Watching from my frosted window,
I think that, finally, I know
Why I believe in Christmas Eve –
That light that makes a pine tree glow.

Safe in this silent-night reprieve
From a troubled world, I believe
In peace on earth, good will to all.
Here, it is easy to achieve.

Watching herald angels fall,
As snow beyond my glistening wall,
I wait for Santa Claus to call.
And like a child, I feel so small.

The One True Word

The One True Word

The One True Word

The One True Word

Song of the lich owl,
Serenading banshee’s howl,
Wind in the church gate yearning,
Corpse-candle brightly burning,
The late night comet’s dearth,
Those silent mounds of earth,
The shadow man on the moon,
All speak the one true word.
Haven’t you already heard?
Listen carefully – you shall hear it soon.

Before Thy Day Doth Fade

Before Thy Day Doth Fade

Before Thy Day Doth Fade

Before Thy Day Doth Fade

Today, with all thy heart,
Love the bloom that wilts tomorrow.
Though from love thou must part,
Waste thou not a tear on sorrow.

At the sudden onset of night,
In the deepening shade,
Love thou dearly that precious light,
Before thy day doth fade.

Dry Leaf

Dry Leaf

Dry Leaf

Dry Leaf

Oh, dry leaf, insignificant and transient,
Formed so, and abandoned so,
That your passing should have a fixed course,
That your rustling might linger for a time more,
That remembrance of your passing might linger,
This is the core want of my substance.
This is the dire need of my soul, oh, dry leaf.

Shadows and Sand

Shadows and Sand

Shadows and Sand

Shadows and Sand

We are only shadows and sand,
Blending into deepening shades of dusk.
We are fire in mystery’s hand,
Fragrance of bloom lost to decay’s stale musk.
We are vague promises broken,
Form and motion that time will soon rescind.
We are secrets vainly spoken,
Rumors on the dusty tongue of the wind.

Of Tea

Of Tea
Of Tea
Of Tea

My cup of tea is steeped in deepest lore,
From olden times in lost, exotic lands –
The stuff of ardent scenes since days of yore.
I hold a cup of legend in my hands.
Reposed upon my thoughts as on a throne,
Beneath a tropic jungle’s misted light,
In visions of fragrant haze, I am shown
Incense scent from some ancient temple height.
Sweet wisps of Gypsy secrets at my lips,
I recollect the wealth of friendships past,
Dispelled to naught, like vaporizing ships,
‘Cross seas of mystery and romance vast.
With kindred souls I sip, and muse, and dream,
And sail away on wafts of sultry steam.
